I have been sensitive to and passionate about the needs of women from a very young age. I have felt called to serve and help women find their voices since I was a child. As I grew up I explored this in a few ways. I went to a military academy and volunteered to assist with a advocate program for women who have been sexually harassed, abused or raped. I have basic training in assisting people who have been in traumatic situations such as abuse. I graduated the academy with a Bachelor's Degree in Marine and Environmental Science and with a commission as an officer in the US Coast Guard. I became a ship driver on an ice breaker for two years. While driving the ship in the Artic for months at a time I worked with women onboard to help them voice concerns and issues. After two years on the ice breaker my tour was complete and I was stationed at a land unit in Seattle. Having more time on land, I began pursuing continuing my education. Through out the years I had felt called to women and babies, and felt drawn towards a career in midwifery or nursing. While looking into midwifery school I discovered the doula profession. It was an instant fit for me. Within 6 months of discovering what a doula was I had completed all necessary training and attended two births, one with a preceptor and one on my own. Both were very successful and a wonderful experience. I am continuing to pursue certification as a doula.
I also have years of experience with dancing, yoga and sports training (crew, rugby and cross country). Because of this, I have a good understanding of practical body mechanics.
